Matthew Goode recently got candid and opened up about the James Bond audition.

While having a conversation with the host Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 47-year-old actor, who is currently being seen as DCI Carl Morck in the Netflix detective series Dept. Q, corrected the host, who said he once auditioned to play James Bond.

Goode revealed he never landed a James Bond audition because he wanted to take the iconic spy in a “really dark” direction.

Referring to the main producer of the James Bond movies, he quipped, "I didn't audition. I went in and met Barbara [Broccoli].”

“I didn't get to the audition but it was quite a funny one because — and she's gorgeous and just a lovely, lovely person — she was like, 'So what's your idea for Bond?' And I was like, 'My idea for Bond. We've gotta take it back to the books, you know? Really, we absolutely have to make this guy an alcoholic, a drug addict. He hates himself. He hates women. He hates a lot of people. He's in deep pain. He's brilliant at killing people,’” the Chasing Liberty star explained.

Goode went on to jokingly add, "I think by the end of the interview, she was like, 'Mhmm. Next.'"

Notably, he “wanted to make it really dark,” but what he should have uttered about the character was, “But also incredibly charming.”

"Ultimately, you know, what they did get was Daniel Craig,” Matthew Goode concluded.
