M3GAN 2.0 turned Allison Williams into an action heroin.
In the M3GAN films, Williams plays Gemma, a roboticist who created the titular murderous AI-driven robot.
The new sequel features a fight scene in which M3GAN controls Gemma and makes her fight a bunch of soldiers.
Williams, who’s also a producer on the film, shared insight into the making of the scene in an interview alongside writer-director Gerard Johnstone
"...it took me a minute to realize I was going to have to speak as myself and M3GAN at the same time at some point, that I'd have to be in my body that M3GAN's in charge of but that my mind is observing, also that I'd be unconscious in a body that M3GAN is controlling," she explained to Entertainment Weekly.
Gerard chimed in, explaining how the Get Out star’s hair was kept in front of her face through the scene to make it look convincing that she was unconscious and controlled by M3GAN.
He said, "One of the early ideas for that fight sequence was, it should feel like Samara from The Ring meets Drunken Master. So she should have her hair in front of her face the whole time, and that would help us."
He revealed that The Perfection star was trained by Jason Walsh, who has trained the likes of Brie Larson before her outing as Captain Marvel.
Williams ended up doing the scene herself and didn’t need a stuntwoman to step in.
"What ended up happening is that Allison trained very, very hard and ended up doing a lot of that herself. You can see it in the film," Gerard shared.
"There's no deepfake in those sequences where you can clearly see it's her. You can also clearly see the look of glee on her face as she's doing it," he added.
