Prince William made a huge promise to Kate Middleton in order to save their relationship in the years leading up to their 2011 royal wedding.
During growing public scrutiny and media invasion into their private lives, the Prince of Wales made a big commitment to the now-Princess of Wales.
In 2007, the couple went through a brief breakup and later rekindled their relationship during a private trip to the Seychelles.
According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, the holiday marked a key moment in their William and Kate’s relationship, per Hello! Magazine.
She revealed that William gave Kate a personal commitment and assured her she was the one and asking for more time before marriage.
Writing in her book The Making of a Royal Romance, the expert shared the promise that William made to Kate.
“William, who had inherited something of his father's fear of commitment, knew he would lose Kate if he could not give her some form of guarantee,” she revealed.
“They didn’t agree to get married there and then; what they made was a pact,” she added.
“William told Kate she was the one, but he was not ready to get married.
“He promised her his commitment and said he would not let her down, and in turn she agreed to wait for him.”
Three years later, William proposed to Kate during a visit to Kenya and they made their engagement public in November 2010.
The lovebirds tied the knot the next year at Westminster Abbey in a grand royal wedding.
