Brian Wilson’s battle with inner demons, the abuse, and the addiction nearly destroyed his life.
According to Radar Online, the American musician, who passed away at the age of 82, on June 11, 2025, and whose main cause of death was respiratory arrest amid cystitis, sepsis, and other associated factors, was struggling in his personal life despite garnering worldwide acclaim.
Sources told the outlet that the genius behind the Beach Boys was abused by his family both physically and emotionally. He struggled with mental illness, later saying he had diagnosed schizophrenia.
Before his death, Wilson claimed that his brothers Carl and Dennis and cousin Mike Love made him fire the original band members, including his long-time friend Al Jardine.
However, the reason they did this was because of the problems caused by the God Only Knows crooner’s behaviour.
Per the insiders, Wilson once quipped, "My whole life in the Beach Boys was a big camouflage. I was hiding from life. When you're [in that] 10-second level of mental, nervous breakdowns, you call it a '10.'"
"I was in my Play Room so much of the time, just trying to survive. But when I had enough strength, I would go into the studio to write music or go into the house to play the piano – and that would lift me out of it,” he added.
Wilson also admitted he was terrified by the audio hallucinations, “voices,” as he quipped, "Sometimes I just felt like a voice would say something and I would listen to it. If it said, 'Jump out the window,' I'd jump out the window."
