Chris Carmack and Sophia Bush have a lot in common as 2000s teen stars. Now, they’re discussing a new project they’re collaborating on.

The duo are doing a psychological thriller called The Stranger in My Home.

In the film, Sophia plays Ali, mom to a teenage girl. Chris plays a teenage girl dad who claims that their daughters were switched at birth.

The duo sat down to discuss their film for Us Weekly’s Conversations segment.

Chris asked the One Tree Hill alum what she thinks is the reason behind people’s fascination with switched at birth stories.

Sophia replied, "The idea that babies could be swapped at birth sounds like an old wives’ tale or an urban legend."

"And then as we get a script, we do research. We found out about the times that this has happened before there were these supposedly fail-safe measures instituted in hospitals," she continued.

The Grey's Anatomy star reflected on finding out that this happens in real life.

Sophia said, "To know this has happened to people, it spins you out mentally. [Thinking about] being able to get in character, I thought, 'Well, it wouldn’t matter, right? They’ve raised this kid, this is their baby.'"

"And yes, their biological child is out there somewhere, and the spin cycle that that would put you on mentally and emotionally," she continued.

Her Grey's Anatomy co-star echoed her analysis, and explained, “It’s sort of a gut punch to the idea of identity. Identity is such a personal question for everybody.

Chris continued, “And to have that viscerally ripped away from you, now [the daughters who have been switched] have to explore, 'What is now my identity? Who am I? I felt like I was like my mother.' Or, 'I’ve had a conflict with my mother, is it because I’m not their seed, so to speak?'"

The O.C star added, "As a parent, I can’t think of anything that might be so absolutely gut-wrenching, to think this person that I know and love is someone else’s biological child that they didn’t know about,” he added.

"What are they gonna want to do? Are they gonna wanna go meet these parents? Are they gonna love these parents more than they love me? All these questions are asked,” he added.

Chris Carmack and Sophia Bush's The Stranger in My Home was released digitally on June 24th, 2025.
