Kate Winslet has shared how she played a pivotal role in bringing her son's script to life on the big screen ahead of the film's release next week.
The upcoming Christmas film, Goodbye June, marks Winslet's debut as a director and is based on a screenplay written by her son, Joe Anders.
The 21-year-old created the script as part of screenwriting course, drawing inspiration from the death of his maternal grandmother in 2017.
Kate, 50, revealed that she was determined for the story to become the actual film, taking on multiple roles as lead actor, producer, and director.
Speaking on this week's Graham Norton Show, airing Friday night, the Titanic star admitted that after reading Joe's script, she 'could not let it go,' prompting her to step behind the camera for the first time.
She said: 'My wonderful son wrote it. He did a screen-writing course and was encouraged to write from the heart and the most significant thing that had happened to him was the loss of his grandmother when he was 13.
'When I read, I said,' You have written a film and we are going to make it.'
The Oscar-winner confessed: 'I knew I couldn't let it go so now at 50 years old I am a director. It was an extraordinary experience.'
The family drama also features acclaimed actors Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Dame Helen Mirren.
