Ryan Hurst has joined the God of War franchise as the lead character Kratos in the upcoming love-action.

The 49-year-old actor will be returning to the series after voicing the Norse god Thor in the video game, “God of War: Ragnarok.”

According to the premise of the upcoming live-action release, the character is “Spartan by birth, and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War and lost his soul in exchange for being victorious in battle.”

The Walking Dead star wrapped up his Christopher Nolan movie, The Odyssey, just a little while before the announcement of his new project.

Hurst’s live-action is a Amazon project and the original adaptation has been streaming since 2022. Rafe Judkins was the original showrunner but Ronald D. Moore stepped in as the showrunner after he left the show in October 2024.

For the upcoming live-action, Moore would continue to serve as the writer, executive producer, and the showrunner of the series.
