Stranger Things behind-the-scenes documentary director pushed back against speculation that Matt and Ross Duffer relied on ChatGPT to write the series’ finale.
The director of One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, Martina Radwan, addressed fan theories sparked by a laptop image in the film that appeared to show ChatGPT open.
While acknowledging that no one has confirmed what the tab actually displayed, Radwan dismissed the idea that the Duffers outsourced their storytelling to artificial intelligence.
“How can you possibly write a storyline with 19 characters and use ChatGPT? I don’t even understand,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
She added that even if it was ChatGPT, ‘that’s like having your iPhone next to your computer while you’re writing a story. We just use these tools… while multitasking.”
Radwan emphasized that what she witnessed in the writers’ room was not AI-generated dialogue but creative exchanges and story development.
“Of course not. I witnessed creative exchanges. I witnessed conversation,” she said emphasising the integrity of the brothers’ process.
Despite the noise surrounding the finale, Radwan defended the brothers’ commitment to giving each character a fitting farewell.
Ultimately, she urged viewers to focus on the creative achievement rather than picking apart speculative details, “What I find heartbreaking is everybody loves the show, and suddenly we need to pick it apart.”
