'This Morning' host Josie Gibson reveals her lipoedema diagnosis

Josie Gibson, a This Morning host, normally used to interview their guests on the show, but this morning, Thursday, January 15, 2026, she chose to be the one and revealed a major health update.

The 40-year-old breakfast show host had earlier revealed to her fans via Instagram that she has been diagnosed with lipoedema, an abnormal build-up of fat in legs and sometimes arms, according to the NHS.

She disclosed her diagnosis while sharing a video of the gym workout session with her Instagram community. She captioned the post, “I was diagnosed with lipoedema last year, which I always knew anyway.”

Today, while appearing on her breakfast show—this time as a guest—Gibson spoke to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

She said she got her official diagnosis last year when a fan told her on Instagram that she had a “typical lipoedema body”—and at that time she didn’t even know what it was.”

Gibson further shared, saying it seems as if her legs “don’t belong” on her body because they are so disproportionate to her “tiny waist," and it’s getting worse despite the fact she trains.

She added that she “bruises like a peach.”

The star continued, sharing she had to undergo the surgery to get rid of some of the lipoedema fat in her legs, even though it was the “last thing” she wanted to do, to help improve her condition, as it was “her last resort.”

Gibson rose to fame through the reality show Big Brother (2010) and has been hosting the breakfast show This Morning since 2019.

What causes lipoedema?

The exact cause of lipoedema is not clear, however, it’s not the result of being overweight. Someone can be a healthy weight and still get it.

According to the NHS, lipoedema may develop because of the changes in hormones during puberty, during pregnancy, or during menopause or because of taking the contraceptive pill.
