Annie Murphy is saying goodbye to a great actress.

The 39-year-old actress is mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara following the television and film icon’s untimely death. Murphy, who famously plays O’Hara’s character Moira’s daughter Alexis on Schitt’s Creek, took to Instagram on January 31 to pay tribute in the most Alexis way possible.

“Ha-ha-HAAAA?!?! Her laugh was perpetual Yes, And… It challenged anyone who heard it to join in, and be as delighted as she was,” Murphy wrote alongside a carousel of images of the pair on set.

“Gosh were we ever lucky to have her,” she continued, adding the hashtag, “#goodbyetoagreatactress,” quoting Alexis’ line from an episode where the internet incorrectly assumed that Moira had died. Fans immediately flooded the comments section with Alexis’ next dialogue: “The sunglasses are because I’m in mourning, David!”

Murphy also shared the notes she had made from watching O’Hara on set:

  • Giggles always. Jokes first. As looking as they feel right in your bones.
  • When you find the people you love and make you laugh, stick with your lovers and laughters.
  • Everybody on set is a part of the community who (ideally) wants to make something great - treat them as such.
  • Make suggestions, even if that means overstepping sometimes. Acknowledge if it doesn’t work. Be appreciative to those who appreciate it when it does.

News of O’Hara’s death broke on January 30. She passed away in her home at the age of 71 following a brief illness. The Emmy-and-Golden-Globe winner was beloved for her roles in Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Schitt’s Creek, and more.
