Taylor Swift’s new Elizabeth Taylor music video might have sparked a mixed reaction from fans, but the Hollywood icon’s family has nothing but applause for the pop superstar.
The Eras Tour performer, 36, created a montage of clips from Taylor’s movies, and personal life, paying homage to her legacy aptly for the song titled after her.
Ahead of the music video release, Swift’s team reached out to Taylor’s family and asked for their permission, and speaking about the video a representative for her state said, “What makes this piece so remarkable is its pure devotion to Elizabeth’s legacy: composed entirely of archival film clips, from her iconic screen performances to candid moments, it is a celebration of Elizabeth from beginning to end, and an homage in the truest sense.”
They noted that the Cat on a Hat Tin Roof actress was portrayed with care and respect in the video, highlight how “she lived unapologetically and on her own terms, embracing her public life with grace and courage while fiercely protecting the private world she cherished with family and friends,” as per TMZ.
Appreciating the Grammy winner’s decision to pay tribute to Taylor, they added, “If there is anyone navigating the extraordinary pressures of global fame with comparable authenticity and strength, it is Taylor Swift. The estate is honoured that she chose to pay tribute in this way, and have no doubt that Elizabeth would have loved every frame of it.”
While Taylor’s family were all fans, Swifties had different opinions. Many fans considered it “lazy” to release a music video which was a patchwork of already existing clips of the actress. The project also landed as a disappointment because fans believed there was a music video featuring Selena Gomez in the works for the particular song.
