Meet Josh Windass: Wrexham hero who refuses to celebrate as club claims play-off spot

Josh Windass, 32, hailing from Hull, sent shockwaves across English football with 15 goals for his club Wrexham this season in a single Championship run.

The 32-year-old Wrexham hero is reluctant to perform for the cameras.

Windass, with his outclass performance, sends Wrexham back into the Championship playoff spot.

Windass joined as a free agent that summer while north Wales was busy throwing cash on big-name moves.

As the season approaches its culmination, Windass appears to be soaking up his camera-shy hero role.

Windass has scored 15 goals for the season with his midweek winner.

In an interview with the BBC, Windass said, “You’re going to get a boring interview because there’s not much to say apart from that we need to win the next two games,” focused Windass, said.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson also praised the reluctant hero, who commented on Windass’s buzzing performance this season, saying, “It’s not easy to get goals at this level but he’s producing goals when it matters most. And that’s the sign of a top player.”

Windass’ tally is already his best for a season at this level, and that’s the most a Wrexham player has ever managed in the second tier.

Only Swansea City’s Zan Vipotnik (22 goals and 3 assists) and Hull City’s Oli McBurnie (15 goals, 7 assists) have contributed to more goals than Windass.

Wrexham are now set to face Coventry on Sunday, April 25, 2026, at CBS Arena to keep their hopes of a fourth straight promotion alive.
