IVS Degree Show 2016 — Annual thesis display kicks off

KARACHI: The Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture holds its annual thesis show featuring the work of graduating class of 2016. Representing each department/faculty, this year’s display is divided into five major categories, including final year projects of over 50 students.

The show, on view from Monday, December 5, is the culmination of four years of intensive work by the students of architecture, fine art, communication, interior and textile design.

Graduating with distinction in Textile Design, Anum Jung says, their department subdivided into apparel, print, weave and design intervention comprises of 22 students. The work presented, therefore, is diverse in nature, explains Jang.

In an attempt to capture the essence of their respective academic programme, each student has incorporated different textile techniques like weaving, knitting, printing and embroidery to develop their final product according to her.

The floor reserved for Communication Design displays was perhaps the most exciting and alluring. With a number of captivating and elaborate setups, each student seeks inspiration from Karachi for their final project. Based mostly on social issues the entire display represents the city and its people, according to graduating illustrator Sundas Masood Kidwai.

The Department of Fine art exhibited the work of 16 students from its graduating class. A student of Qawwali for the past three years, Narmeen Farooqui has dedicated her digital works to the musical tradition. The inspiration behind each display varies from one student to another making it a versatile presentation overall, said Narmeen.

The on-campus studios will remain open for private view till December 10.
