Sarah Silverman recently opened up about how it felt working on Saturday Night Live (SNL).
The 54-year-old American comedian and actress, who served as a writer and cast member on SNL season 19 but got dropped after one season, appeared on The Howard Stern Show and revealed how Conan O’Brien saved her after she was fired from the show.
Silverman, whom O’Brien invited onto Late Night show following her exit from SNL, said, “Conan was the best thing for me. That was his first year [on ‘Late Night’], was my first and only year at ‘SNL.’ And he put me on all the time, even after I was fired, all the time, and that was the start for me.”
She added, “And I wouldn’t have been able to be on Conan without ‘SNL.’ And it was an incredible kind of boot camp experience.”
The Ralph Breaks the Internet star went on to admit that being on SNL was not just “so amazing” and “so magical, but there was also “just something about it where they just have this energy that puts you in your place where you feel like a piece of shit, and you’re terrified. The anxiety… it’s very hard to be zen and chill there.”
“Andy Samberg did that whole piece about the anxiety of doing something for ‘SNL.’ It was very honest — I thought a lot of people connected to it that were there. We all feel like losers here for some reason,” Silverman noted, referring to Samberg’s SNL50 sketch.
