Nicole Kidman recently opened up about the unexpected success of Babygirl on TikTok.
Speaking during one of Kering’s Women In Motion talks at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the 57-year-old Australian-American actress and film producer reflected on the success of how social media is helping filmmakers to exhibit their work in different and exciting ways.
Kidman quipped, “It’s extraordinary to have that avenue for that film to be discovered. There are so many different ways now to reach people.”
Referring to Babygirl’s release on August 30, 2024, at the Venice Film Festival, she added, “We launched at the Venice Film Festival, and they gave us extraordinary support. But we still had five months before launching in America, and it got this groundswell of support on social [media] and TikTok and that literally made people go see the film. So you just never know how things are going to be discovered now.”
The Eyes Wide Shut star went on to reveal that she always tries to find out new ways to “reach people who normally wouldn’t hear about things.”
Moving forward, Kidman was inquired about her promise to work with a female director once every 18 months, which she made eight years ago.
Answering the question, the Oscar-winning actress said she has worked with a woman director 27 times.
The she was asked if the number left her in awe, to which Kidman replied, “I was going to make it happen.”
