Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's old home may cause problems for King Charles, as per an expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, tied the knot in 2018 and moved to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate shortly after the birth of their son Prince Archie, in 2019. Frogmore was provided to the couple from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
However, Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles of the working royals in 2020 and following the publication of Charles' youngest son's memoir Spare, their licence was not extended.
While Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew, lived in the Frogmore Cottage for some time earlier, the property Harry once called that they were "destined to live in" has remained empty.
Despite King Charles' attempts to move Prince Andrew into Frogmore in 2024, it is still empty.
Now, property expert Robin Edwards highlighted to the Scottish Daily Express that it would be "controversial" if Frogmore Cottage remains vacant.
"One possibility for Frogmore Cottage is to lease it to a high-profile tenant, particularly someone with strong royal connections or a reputable public profile. They would have to be highly vetted by the palace and security services, though," he suggested.
Robin added, "Another option would be to use it for visiting dignitaries or guests, as it would make an ideal accommodation choice for those attending events at Windsor Castle. Alternatively, it could be offered as a grace-and-favour residence to senior members of the royal household or government officials."
The expert went on to share that "considering public scrutiny over the use of royal residences, it seems likely that the family will either find a practical use for Frogmore Cottage or rent it commercially to justify its ongoing maintenance costs."
It is worth mentioning that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have always loved the property. The Duke of Sussex wrote in his memoir Spare, "From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there."
Notably, the couple is now living in their Montecito mansion along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
