Pierce Brosnan plays Conrad Harrigan in the latest Paramount+ show, MobLand.
But what came under criticism was his Irish accent, despite him being born in Ireland.
For example, The Irish Times slammed the star’s accent as a “mangled” vocal work as a “horror for the ages,”
However, it is relevant to mention that the James Bond actor was mostly raised in both England and the USA.
In an interview with Radio Times, the veteran actor Pierce addressed the criticism about his accent in the gangster drama.
“My own accent is very soft … Conrad’s accent is a million miles away from me,” the 72-year-old said.
Given this, his dialect coach gave him a suggestion. “I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, So he gave me the name of a man, and I Googled the guy, and that was it. It was a Kerry accent. And so, I just gave it full tilt.”
Nonetheless, the accent seems not to hit its mark. Pierce previously shared his concern with the series director, Guy Ritchie, about his Irish accent having “dissipated to the midst of time."
“Last summer, I spoke to Guy for the first time about it, and having read the five episodes, he said not to worry about it,” the GoldenEye star told Dave Moore on Today FM.
Pierce's MobLand is available on Paramount+.
