Leighton Meester has finally revealed the real reason why she left the music industry.

In a new interview with Bustle on Wednesday, the 39-year-old singer shared that she quit making pop music because she didn't think she "sang that well."

"I just didn't feel like I sang that well in those songs," said Leighton. "That's why I stopped doing that style of songwriting, because I didn't feel really good when I would sing it.”

“That was something that I figured out in my 20s,” she added.

Elsewhere in the interview, the Gossip Girl alum said that she's given up a few opportunities in her career to spend time with her children. For those unversed, Leighton shares two kids with her husband, Adam Brody - a 9-year-old daughter, Arlo, and a 4-year-old son.

"There's been a lot of stuff that I haven't done because I want to be with them," she said. "I don't like being away from them. I'm sure a lot of people feel this way, but I'm especially not into it."

"Obviously, for the very right thing, I would probably be like, 'Let's figure it out.' I mean, I'm not going to leave my family for a year. We're not doing that," she added. "But apart from that, we have a good system in place, where I can consider jobs carefully. And every other piece of life."
