Kim Cattrall is opening up about why she rejected her Sex and the City role initially.
Cattrall played Samantha Jones on Sex and the City after first rejecting the famed role four times.
Telling The Times of London about why she rejected the role, she said, “Self-inflicted ageism,” sharing that she was 41 at the time. “Well, that changed. 40 became sexy. It became, ‘Man, let’s have more of that.’”
“She wasn’t a nymphomaniac — well, some people might have thought she was — but she was just enjoying the main course,” Cattrall said. “Everyone else was nibbling on the appetizers when she was going for the steak. And it was always on her terms — that I always insisted on.”
She added, “But, I’m the antithesis of [Samantha] in many ways. I’m a serial monogamist, and then some.”
The actress also noted that she doesn’t mind if she’s remembered only for her role as Samantha.
“I created a fantastic character that I loved, and I put a lot of love in it,” she gushed. “If I’m remembered only for that, then that’s really OK.”
Alongside Kim Cattrall, Sex and the City cast included Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York and, Cynthia Nixon Miranda Hobbes.
