Princess Diana was referred to by a secret codename in the making of her iconic wedding dress.
As per the designer, who contributed in the making of Diana’s wedding dress, the former and late wife of King Charles was given a codename in order to keep the secrecy of her wedding dress.
For the secret project the small loyal staff was involved by the designers to eliminate the chances of any leak of information.
Therefore, Princess Diana was called Deborah Cornwall during the calls, as revealed in the upcoming documentary, Secrets of Diana’s Wedding Dress.
While Cornwall was inspired by the title she took upon marrying King Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall.
However, Princess Diana was known by her higher title after marrying Charles, who was the Princess of Wales.
Elizabeth Emanuel was one of the creators involved in the making of Princess Diana’s wedding dress. She revealed in the documentary, “When we started to see Diana, we were just very aware of security, so we decided to call her Deborah.”
“We called her Deborah Cornwall. Isn’t that strange?” Elizabeth added.
The designer, who was part of the design duo with her then-husband David Emanuel, recalled the day when Diana, the late mother of Prince William and Prince Harry, called the salon to ask if Elizabeth and David would do “the honour” of designing her iconic gown.
David shared that when the design took shape they knew it had “to be significant.”
Elizabeth also recalled the day when Diana wanted to acknowledge the work behind-the-scenes and while they would keep the late Princess from the workroom the designer shared that she “had persuaded me to let her go upstairs. She was just curious and wanted to see everybody. They were almost crying.”
“I can’t believe we managed to create the dress in that attic space,” the designer said.
The late Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles tied the knot on 29 July 1981.
