Gwyneth Paltrow has just opened up about a struggle that she faced while filming The Talented Mr. Ripley.

In the 1999 psychological thriller movie, she portrayed the role of Marge Sherwood, who is an intelligent, perspective and ultimately suspicious girlfriend of wealthy man Dickie Greenleaf.

While appearing on The Goop Podcast, the Iron-Man actress candidly talked about her tough days of shooting in Italy.

"We shot a day of The Talented Mr. Ripley here in the Opera House many years ago now,” she began by saying.

"Movies like that really afforded me an incredible opportunity to see the world. Some experiences were happier than others. Ripley, in fact, was a really tough movie for me," Paltrow admitted.

Revealing that her father, Bruce Paltrow, was suffering from cancer at that time, she said, "My father and my grandfather were both diagnosed with cancer within six weeks of each other when I was on that film. And I was in a very tough place personally.”

Moreover, the 52-year-old actress shared that her father passed away at the age of 58, due to complications of throat cancer, on October 2, 2002, while celebrating her 30th birthday.

Recalling re-visiting Italy with her husband, Brad Falchuk, Gwyneth Paltrow concluded, "It's interesting, you know, coming back to a certain place again, older, happier, more settled in a different frame of mind."
