Prince William said he is deeply saddened by the death of Liverpool's Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his brother in a car crash.
"As part of the footballing family, I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Diogo Jota and his brother. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him."
Citing local authorities, Reuters reported that Diogo Jota and his brother died in a car crash in northwestern Spain early on Thursday, when their Lamborghini veered off the road and burst into flames.
The report said that evidence at the scene of the crash near the city of Zamora suggests Jota's car suffered a burst tyre while overtaking, Spanish police said in a statement. The crash occurred around 00:30 a.m. (2230 GMT).
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also issued a statement saying, "There are millions of Liverpool fans, but also football fans, non fans, who will also be shocked by this.
He said, "It is devastating, and it is really important we bear in mind just how difficult a period this will be for his friends, for his family."
