Meghan Markle’s new rosé wine sold out in just 45 minutes, however, an expert has claimed that the quick sell-out was more about smart marketing than taste.

Speaking with The Express, world-renowned chef Jameson Stocks said the wine is likely being bought as a collector’s item and not something that the buyers to drink.

He also talked of how much stock was actually available at launch and further suggested that Meghan only had a limited supply of wine, calling it a great PR strategy.

“I’m sceptical about how quickly her product sold out because the stock is extremely limited,” he said.

“Claiming it sold out within 45 minutes makes for great PR. If there were only five items available, it’s clearly a clever marketing tactic.”

The rosé cost £22 per bottle, and though Jameson agreed the price was quite high, he said it didn’t really surprise him.

The expert further praised Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, for being smart for how she planned the launch, but also said there might be a bigger reason behind it, with another goal in mind.

“When demand increases, prices go up. Next time they’re available, she’s certainly not the first to do this. It’s simply how the industry works.”

Later, he joked that “without a doubt” there were only a handful of buyers who got their hands on the wine predicted that the lucky few “probably won’t even open them.”

They would keep it as a “a piece of art,” the chef claimed. “Since most people aren’t concerned with how the wine actually tastes,” he added.

“I would be genuinely surprised if any of these bottles are ever opened; they’ll likely serve only as conversation pieces and investment assets.”
