Daniel Radcliffe reveals how he re-directed his addictive personality

Daniel Radcliffe has officially traded late-night habits for early-morning hustle.

The former Harry Potter star, now 36, admits he once used to “run on coffee and cigarettes all day” — until the day he quit smoking and redirected that energy somewhere else entirely.

“I do weights, circuit training, cardio. I don’t look like a person who would be a fitness freak, but I’m pretty intense about it,” he told WSJ. Magazine.

And yes, he knows how it sounds.

“I feel like I’m a cliché of a former alcoholic or anyone who had any kind of addictive personality and then switched that addiction to being about the gym.”

Radcliffe first spoke about getting sober in 2012, later calling alcohol “the easiest way to escape being self-conscious.” These days? “Now I just run on coffee all day.”

His new co-star Tracy Morgan joins him in NBC’s upcoming comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, but Radcliffe’s toughest role might be dad. He and longtime partner Erin Darke share a two-year-old son who acts as a human alarm clock.

“I have a small child, so my body has trained to wake up at about 5:30… at 6:30 it will flick from blue to yellow and I will hear him scream, ‘It’s yellow, COME GET ME!’ “

While Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson avoided the usual child-star chaos, he’s clearly about one thing: “I honestly wouldn’t want my son to act or to become famous.”

Fame worked out fine – but not without effort. And apparently, a lot of cardio.
