Meryl Streep spills hilarious Colin Firth ‘spandex' story

Leave it to Meryl Streep to casually drop a behind-the-scenes story that no one saw coming.

During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Oscar winner took a trip down memory lane to Mamma Mia! – and things got… unexpectedly cheeky.

Looking at a still from the film’s iconic Dancing Queen and Waterloo scenes (yes, the spandex era), Streep did not hold back: “I don’t think Colin Firth has ever recovered from this moment in spandex.”

Then came the punchline.

She recalled how Firth and Pierce Brosnan stepped out of their dressing rooms, gave each other a once-over, and Firth simply said: “I need socks.”

Not your everyday wardrobe request.

The audience – and Stephen Colbert – got the joke instantly. Let’s just say those “socks” were not for keeping warm.

The story arrives just as Streep gears up for The Devil Wears Prada 2 buzz, recently spotted alongside Anne Hathaway during early promo appearances.
