Bollywood actor Sonali Bendre is tackling cancer head on.

A week after announcing her cancer diagnosis, Sonali on Tuesday shared a video of herself getting her hair cut in preparation for cancer treatment.

Along with it, the actor also posted a picture of herself rocking a long pixie cut and penned a heartfelt note.

“The outpouring of love I’ve received in the last few days has been so overwhelming,” she said in a statement also shared on social media Tuesday. “Your stories have given me an extra dosage of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I’m not alone,” she wrote.

Sonali further shared, “Each day comes with its own challenges and victories and so for now, I’m taking this #OneDayAtATime. The only thing I’m trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook… literally #SwitchOnTheSunshine – it’s my way of dealing with this.”

“I can only hope it reminds you that all is not lost and that someone, somewhere understands what you’re going through,” she concluded.

Sonali is currently undergoing treatment in New York.

Last week, the actor took to social media to share she has been diagnosed with high-grade cancer.

“Sometimes when you least expect it, life throws you a curve-ball. I have recently been diagnosed with high-grade cancer that has metastasized, which we frankly did not see coming," the actor said in a statement posted on Twitter and Instagram.

“Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high-grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming,” she added.

“A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them,” Sonali continued.

“We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. … I’m taking this battle head on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me," she concluded.

Sonali made her Bollywood debut in 1994 with Govinda’s Aag and went on to rule Bollywood during the 90s and early 2000s, with films such as Sarfarosh, Duplicate, Major Saab, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Diljale.

The actor recently stepped down as the judge of popular TV show India’s Best Dramebaaz and was last seen on the silver screen in 2013 in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.
