Marvel dropped the first official teaser of the fourth installment of the Avengers franchise on Friday.

The trailer starts with a gloomy-sounding Tony Stark recording for his wife-to-be Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). “If you find this recording, don’t feel bad about this. Part of the journey is the end.”

The trailer then moved onto Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) Captain America (Chris Evans) front-and-center — as they mourn the loss of half of the universe's population at the hands of Thanos

All of the heroes who died in Infinity War are absent from the clip — except for Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, and Paul Rudd's Ant-Man who enter the fray after missing out in the previous film.

In a tweet, directors Joe and Anthony Russo said: "For those who have been here since the beginning. For those who have joined along the way.

While the Avengers discuss the wipe-out of half the population by Thanos, the trailer doesn't give away much on whether they'd be able to bring back their friends disappearing in thin air, literally.

Avengers: Endgame will also be the final film for Evans, who had hinted at moving on after his final stint as Captain America. Other characters may also reportedly bid farewell to the franchise.

Avengers: Endgame is one of three offerings from the studio set for release next year: Captain Marvel is out on March 8, and Spider-Man: Far From Home follows on July 5.
