Ryan Gosling name-dropped the movie that snubbed The Nice Guys of its second instalment.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Gosling shed light on the real reason why his 2016 action-comedy didn’t get a sequel.

Finger-pointing at the movie’s underwhelming response at the box office, he added, “So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds”.

With the fate of the movie decided upon its opening success, the Barbie actor recalled, “So Angry Birds, just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel”.

The movie in question includes the 43-year-old actor as Holland March, a private investigator, hired by Mrs. Glenn to find her niece.

On the other hand, Amelia Kuttner hires Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe)to put March in his place. However, the two hitmen join forces when their investigation takes a dark turn and everyone who gets involved, winds up dead.

Notably, the Shane Black-directed film was released in 2016 and faced tough competition from the animated film.

Despite positive reviews, the film only grossed $11.2M at the box office, easily topped by the blockbuster $38M revenue.
