SZA, Future and Travis Scott have been named in a new copyright infringement complaint which was filed on 8 January.
The complaint was filed by the artist Victory Boyd, who is signed under Roc Nation.
She has alleged that the collaboration between the three artists for the song Telekinesis had utilized, without her permission, certain aspects of her own track Like the Way It Sounds.
The complaint details, “Scott, SZA, Future and all defendants intentionally and willfully copied plaintiffs’ original work, specifically plaintiff’s lyrics, when they commercially released the infringing work.”
She claimed that she had recorded another version of her track with Kanye West that was called Ultrasounds, which he had then shared with Scott.
Scott "intentionally and willfully copied her song”, according to Boyd, for his album Utopia.
The complaint read further, “Upon information and belief, Scott, SZA, and Future intentionally and willfully copied Plaintiff’s Original Work, specifically Plaintiff’s Lyrics and Melody, when they created the Infringing Work in May of 2023.”
Even though Boyd was allegedly credited as a songwriter, she insists that she was not aware the track would be "copied and commercially released".
While she is aiming for “a full and complete accounting of all profits obtained from their marketing, distribution, and national television broadcasting”, the three artists’ representatives have not yet commented on the situation.
