Julia Stiles weighed in on how motherhood prepared her for the challenges of being director.

As fans will be aware, the actress is currently promoting her directorial debut, Wish You Were Here.

Speaking at the movie’s premiere, Julia spoke with Us Weekly about the similarities between the role of a mother and a director.

“Being a mother is such good training for being a director,” she began.

The 10 Things I Hate About You actress added, “You have to be good at time management, you have to be a multitasker.”

“You have to be present but also think 10 steps ahead,” she declared.

She also joked that when you become a mother, you barely get any sleep and so “you have to be able to operate really well with sleep deprivation”

She maintained that with both directing and parenting you must “manage people’s emotions and needs but also guide them.”

Before signing off from the topic, she maintained, “A hundred percent [it’s] the best training.”
