Mellencamp's new tattoo is a vertical line along her spine that reads, "Life is short even in its longest days," an excerpt from her dad John Mellencamp's 2008 song Longest Days.

"Can you guess what my new tat says? We did family tat day yesterday and of course this is what I picked," Mellencamp wrote with her picture that showed her posing in the mirror to show off the tattoo in full.

John, 73, shared in an earlier interview with NPR's Fresh Air podcast how his grandmother, who was later diagnosed with dementia, inspired the track and lyrics.

"One afternoon, I was laying in bed with her, and she said let's pray, and I said okay. And so she starts praying, and she says God, you know, Buddy and I are ready to come home."

Teddi also dedicated a tattoo to her close friend and former costar Kyle Richards this past April with identical burning match sticks on their wrist.
