Spike Lee is seemingly bidding farewell to Denzel Washington.
While speaking at a Cannes press conference for his new film Highest 2 Lowest on Tuesday, May 20, the 68-year-old American film director talked about working with Washington for the last time since their 2006 movie Inside Man.
Lee, who worked with Washington in movies like Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Mo’ Better Blues, said, “Denzel and I didn’t know that our previous film, Inside Man, was 18 years ago. We were surprised because it felt like yesterday. But we didn’t miss a step.”
He added of his collaboration with the Oscar-winning actor, “I think this is it — five. He’s been talking about retirement, even though he’s just done another deal. Five films together, they stand up.”
For the unversed, Washington, who is playing the role of David King in Lee's upcoming film, received an honorary Palme d’Or ahead of the premiere screening of Highest 2 Lowest last night.
It is pertinent to mention that Highest 2 Lowest will be released in cinemas under the banner of A24 on August 22, 2025.
Later, it will be available on Apple TV+ on September 5, 2025.
