Ozzy Osbourne is gearing up to take the stage one last time.
The Black Sabbath rocker, 76, opened up about his upcoming preparation in a recent appearance on his show SiriusXM’s Ozzy Speaks.
“All I can say is I’m giving 120%. If my God wants me to do the show, I’ll do it,” the legendary singer said of his upcoming July 5 performance in his hometown of Birmingham, England.
The performance, titled “Back to the Beginning,” comes amid complications from a fall in 2019 as well as his Parkinson’s diagnosis, which has affected his ability to walk.
“I haven’t done any physical work for the last seven [or so] years,” he said on his show. “By hook or by crook, I’m gonna make it there. I’ve got this trainer guy who helps people get back to normal. It’s hard going, but he’s convinced that he can pull it off for me. I’m giving it everything I’ve got.”
Cohost Billy Morrison then asked Osbourne if he’s been anxious about the upcoming show, to which the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said he’s doing his best not to let nerves get to him.
“Sometimes, but what I do, if I start obsessing all the time, I’ll be insane by Friday, you know?” he said. “So I’m just taking it one day at a time and when I do it one day at a time.”
Osbourne also spoke of his surprise at the influence his music has had, recalling bands that told him at Ozzfest that he’d had a major impact on their careers.
“I go, ‘I think you’re just saying that.’ I’m very self-critical about people’s adoration… I’m not good at accepting. [My son] Jack said to me, ‘Well, you’ve done it now.’ And I go, ‘No, I haven’t. I want to make more music,’” he said. “When I met Paul McCartney, I nearly f****** dropped dead. And there was a kid, he said to me when I was explaining that, and he goes, ‘Do you know that was my experience of meeting you?'"
The band will be joined by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon.
Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Korn’s Jonathan Davis, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello will also form a super-band for the gig.
