Meghan Trainor is opening up about skincare essentials after learning the hard way.
The 31-year-old Grammy winner has teamed up with e.l.f. Skin to stress the importance of applying SPF in a comedy roast special Sunhinged, which premiered on June 14 at 6 p.m. ET on YouTube.
“I was so nervous,” Trainor told People Magazine of her part in the special that includes a bit with her friend, comedian Jon Rudnitsky.
“I just wanted to make everyone proud and be funny. But the crowd was so kind and so funny, and it was a very welcoming room and all the comedians did so well. I was like, ‘God, e.l.f. is just so smart.’”
The Made You Look songstress then shared how sunscreen is one skincare essential she doesn't let anyone in her family neglect, including her brothers.
“I spray everyone,” she continued. “My brothers are such manly men where they're like, ‘No, I don't need sunscreen!’ And I go around the whole house and I just spray everybody.”
Trainor recalled how sun exposure from her childhood impacted her later in life and said she wants to avoid having her kids, Riley and Barry, “learn the hard way.”
“I have sunspots at 31, and I'm like, ‘What's that from?’ And they're like, ‘Your childhood.’ And I'm like, ‘Excuse me?’ So I'm still learning and we're all learning,” she said.
The pop star also admitted she didn’t grow up learning much about skincare or makeup and it wasn’t until she saw one of her mother’s friends washing her face that she realised it could be a part of her routine.
“I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’,” she remembers thinking of the discovery. “So as an adult now, I double wash every night. And I think of, like, in high school, I definitely didn't wash my face. I didn't know makeup could go in your eyebrows…I missed a bit, but I learned it in my 20s, out here in California, where the sun is always out.
"So now I am prepared fully for my kids — and for future daughters hopefully — to be like, ‘Listen up honeys, sunscreen every day,’” she added.
