In an unexpected but welcomed range of events, another white Hollywood celebrity, Kristen Bell, has given up her position on a show in an attempt to offer proper representation and support for the Black community in these times of crisis and protests.

Just recently, Kristen Bell gave up her position on an animated TV show and urged snowmakers to fill her spot with a Black character.

Bell claimed that “playing Molly shows a lack of awareness of my pervasive privilege. Casting a white actress for a mixed race character undermines the specificity of the mixed race & Black American experience.”

In a later statement by the show’s creative team, a decision was made which confirmed that although a mixed race actor would be taken on board to play Molly in order to “get representation right”. However, Bell would remain on the series but would be given a new role.

According to a report by Just Jared, Kristen’s statement read, “Black people and people of colour have worked and will continue to work on Central Park but we can do better. We’re committed to creating opportunities for people of colour and Black people in all roles, on all our projects.”

Her decision to step down from a role came just after Jenny Slate gave up her spoke on Netflix's Big Mouth in favor of the ‘right’ kind of representation. Although she voiced a black character on the show, she believes, “Black characters on an animated show should be played by black people.”
