'Evil Dead' filmmaker reveals his plan for new film in franchise

Evil Dead Burn will be the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise. But for this upcoming film, director Sébastien Vaniček wants to do something more explosive.

Already known for gut-wrenching scenes, the filmmaker told Variety that in the sixth film in the franchise, his “ambition remains the same as with Infested: to create a visceral, sensory experience that punches the audience in the gut.”

“I want people to feel physically drained when they leave the theater, like they’ve been through an emotional and intense journey," he said.

While discussing the four-decade-old franchise, Sébastien described it as “like a creative playground, a bold laboratory for filmmakers eager to explore something raw, brutal, and deeply transgressive.

The film will go to the floors in New Zealand and will be produced by Rob Tapert and executive produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, the 

Elsewhere in the interview, he also praised the film’s star, Souheila Yacoub, saying, “She brings a rare physicality and emotional intensity to her performances—exactly the kind of raw, visceral presence I was looking for this film.”

Evil Dead Burn will be out on July 24, 2026
