Prince Harry 'disappointed' as Diana's family rejects Meghan Markle comparison

Prince Harry received an unexpected reaction from his mother Princess Diana's family about Meghan Markle.

Royal biographer Tom Bower recently revealed about Meghan's first meeting with her then-boyfriend Harry's maternal side of the family.

In his book Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, Tom revealed that the Duke of Sussex assumed Diana's family would see similarities between her and Meghan.

He wrote, "Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems."

"He was so disappointed," Tom wrote further. "No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family."

It is worth mentioning that the youngest son of King Charles asked for approval from Diana's sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes before marrying Meghan.

Moreover, his uncle, Diana's brother Charles Spencer also had an unexpected reaction.

The author claimed in his book that Charles advised the Duke of Sussex about not rushing into marriage with Meghan Markle.

"His advice provoked a bitter reaction: 'This was going to be really hard.' Harry would later reflect on establishing Meghan's place in the family," Tom wrote.

However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018. The couple stepped down from their royal roles in 2020 and now live in Montecito, California with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Notably, Harry still believes his wife Meghan and his late mother Diana have similarities. He shared in the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan that "So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum."

"She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her," Prince Harry, son of King Charles added.
