Joseph Kosinski has pitched a wild idea for the F1 sequel.
In a talk with GQ Magazine UK, the 51-year-old American film director revealed that his dream for a sequel to his recently released Bard Pitt racing movie is to bring in Tom Cruise for a Days of Thunder crossover.
Notably, Kosinski has worked with Cruise on Top Gun: Maverick, which made $1.4 billion, and they are working together on a third Top Gun movie.
Reflecting on his dream, he said, “Well, right now, it’d be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise’s] ‘Days of Thunder’ character, we find out that he and [Brad Pitt’s] Sonny Hayes have a past.”
The director of Tron: Legacy added, “They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on ‘Interview With a Vampire’ that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?”
Kosinski’s initial plan was to cast Cruise and Pitt together in his own version of Ford v Ferrari, where both actors would perform their own racing in the movie; however, the studio did not approve the budget he demanded.
Also, James Mangold performed the directing duties in Ford v Ferrari along with Matt Damon and Christian Bale.
Taking into account Ford v Ferrari's directing snub, Kosinski quipped, “Yeah, I got close with that. But yeah, you know, everything worked out for the best. I got to do ‘F1.’ But anything’s possible.”
It is pertinent to mention that the Troy star and the Mission Impossible star last appeared together in Interview with the Vampire, a 1994 horror classic.
Notably, during the London premiere of F1 earlier this month, Brad Pitt took pictures with Tom Cruise and had a conversation with E! News, where he admitted he wants to work with Cruise again, but only if one condition is met: “I’m not gonna hang my a**** off airplanes and shit like that.”
