Donald Trump eyed Lady Diana after her highly publicized divorce with Prince Charles in 1996.

Having a rather risqué history with women, from marrying Ivana Trump in 1977 and having an affair with Marla Maples.

After divorcing his first wife in 1990, he continued his relationship with Marla and had a daughter named Tiffany in 1993. Three years into marriage and the couple separated in 1997.

Trump then met the Slovenian-American model Melania Knauss at a party in New York City in 1998, who became his third wife and the future First Lady of America.

However, the politician, who is currently the President of US, admitted to only having “one regret in the women department.”

In his book, The Art of the Comeback, he wrote, “I never had the opportunity to court Lady Diana Spencer.”

“I met her on a number of occasions,” Trump further mentioned, adding, “I couldn't help but notice how she moved people. She lit up the room with her charm, her presence. She was a genuine princess – a dream lady.”

In a Sunday Times column, former BBC journalist and friend of Diana, Selina Scott pointed out that huge bouquets of flowers arrived for the then-Princess of Wales at her Kensington Palace home.

“Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife,” Scott wrote, adding, “As the roses and orchids piled up at her apartment she became increasingly concerned about what she should do. It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her.”

Over a private dinner, Lady Diana shared with Scott, “’What am I going to do?’ she asked. ‘He gives me the creeps.’”

“’Just throw them in the bin,’ I advised. Diana laughed,” the journalist recalled.

Additionally, during one of his appearances on The Howard Stern radio show, Trump called rated Diana third from his top ten hottest women list, putting his ex-wife, Ivana on second and Melania on the top.

“I tell you what, I think she’s magnificent,” Trump told Stern. “Lady Di was truly a woman with great beauty.”

“I’ve seen her a couple of times. She was really beautiful, and people didn’t realise she was that beautiful. She was supermodel beautiful. She had the height, she had the beauty, she had the skin, the whole thing,” he further gushed.

Despite his comments towards the respected Lady Diana, it was more than impressive that Prince William, the late royal’s eldest son, managed to keep himself composed on meeting the American President during his state visit in 2019, in December 2024 at the re-opening of Notre Dame de Paris in and at the funeral of Pope Francis in April 2025.
