'America's Most Wanted' to debut in Asia

Updated at: 1356 PST,  Monday, November 15, 2010
HONG KONG: The host of "America's Most Wanted" is planning to launch an Asian version of the long-running US crime television show in Hong Kong, a report said Monday.

John Walsh said he was negotiating with Star TV to produce "Asia's Most Wanted", although no timetable had been set, The Standard reported.

"We have helped capture dangerous fugitives in Britain, Germany and Japan. The next plan is to make the show truly global," Walsh told the English-language daily.

Walsh -- whose own son was murdered in 1981 --- calls on the US show's viewers to phone in tips to track down fugitives.

Producers work with local law enforcement in choosing those featured on the show, a model which would be replicated in Asia, the paper said.

The programme's 22-year-run has seen about 1,130 fugitives captured and 61 abducted children found, The Standard said.
